2017 Genesis G90 Specs and Price
Posted on by
The 2017 Genesis G90, which made its debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, is the Hyundai Equus rebadged and extensively refitted to compete in the prestigious luxury-sedan segment with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series.
The model rides on a longer Equus platform, which is actually lighter than in the Equus thanks to the use of light-weight high-strength steel. Also, it sports a new styling that really comes out in details. The cabin is spacious with plenty of head and legroom at the front seats, and inlcudes a host of technology upgrades that would put to shame even any number of German-built cars. The powerhouse features an all-new powertrain sporting a turbo-charged V6 and a direct-injected V8, coupled to an eight-speed transmission and standard rear- and optional all-wheel drive. All in all, the new Genesis G90 comes across as a perfectly attractive and stylish luxury-sedan.However, one can’t help but feel the design looks a bit too much like the Equus and the extra few inches on the wheel base do not well all that well executed in terms of design cues across the side panels.
Exterior and Interior
The 2017 Genesis G90 is, at least design-wise, the Equus with its sculpted hood and bumper, short overhangs and a large grille with a chrome surround. However, new details emerge if you look very carefully at the new headlamps and LED daytime running lights, in addition to a new Genesis corporate badging.
The dual exhaust at the rear is also new as are the vertical, instead of horizontal taillights. The side panels have increased quite a bit thanks to additional 4.5 inches on the wheelbase, but, truth be told, the character line, instead of rounding off the design, underscores the new dimensions and adds to a somewhat awkward outline, at least as the profile is concerned. The blacked-out pillars and the chrome trim around the window panes, as well as the five new colors, finish off the exterior.
The interior, at least, benefited from the extended wheelbase opening up legroom and headroom at the front seats, while the dashboard looks stylish and upscale with Nappa leather and wood accents. The center stack sports a 12.3-inch large touchscreen with essential information about the car. The seats are well-bolstered and come with 22-way power adjustable options on the driver’s and 16-way options on the fronts passenger’s seat. They are also heated and ventilated, as are the rear seats on the V8 trim.
The 2017 Genesis G90 is outfitted with two engines, the smaller of which is a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 delivering 365 horsepower and 376 pounds-feet of torque, and the bigger is a ‘carry-over’ 5.0-liter direct-injected V8, which is good for 420 horsepower. Both engines are twinned to an eight-speed transmission and come with a standard rear- and optional all-wheel drive setup. Drivers can select from four driving modes thanks to an active suspension.
2017 Genesis G90 Release Date and Price
The 2017 Genesis G90 is going to arrive at dealerships in the summer of 2016. The pricing is expected to begin at $75,000.
