2017 Ford Raptor – A Beast Off-Road & On
Posted on by
The 2017 Ford Raptor, or more accurately, the Ford F-150 Raptor, will be a new face of the famed on-and-off-road truck that made its debut back in 2010. The SVT Raptor used to be equipped with a standard 5.4-liter V8 engine and optional 6.2-liter V8. Since then it has received various mechanical and design upgrades such as FOX shock absorbers and aggressive sheet metal eschewing the standard Ford blue oval for large block lettering. Now for the 2017 model year, the Raptor will ride on the F-150 reinforced platform and will come in two body configurations, the sporty SuperCab and the larger SuperCrew cab with more legroom and cargo space inside.
The upcoming model will also ditch the loud and beefy V8s for a lighter more fuel efficient EcoBoost V6, which will be turbocharged and will ultimately yield more horsepower than the massive V8s. Also, the model will feature various notable performance features such as a new transfer carse with a “Torque-On-Demand” system managing automatically the torque destribution between the front and rear wheels. In addition, the transfer case comes with Terrain Management System offering six unique driving modes, which are Normal, Street, Weather, Mud and Sand, Rock, and Baja. The model is announced to make an appearance in the fall of 2016, and the pricing will be in the range of the outgoing SVT Raptor.

Also, the overhangs are heavily trimmed with even taller front and rear bumpers and flared fenders housing 17-inch wheels wrapped in Goodrich All-Terrain tires. For stability, the model has been expanded six inches across the wheelbase. Despite the increased size, the model actually comes 500 pounds lighter than the outgoing model thanks to aluminum chassis and composite front fenders and hood. The suspension too is upgraded with 11.2 inches in front and 12.1 at the rear .
The cabin offers well-bolstered sport seats with leather and contrast stitching, while carbon-fiber accents and ‘Raptor’ logos abound around the cabin. The dashboard includes a large instrument cluster, while the overhead console features switches and controls. The leather-wrapped steering wheel comes with paddle shifters The rear seats offers plenty of legroom and fold along the side panels, opening up a cleaner and more uniform floor.
The 2017 Ford Raptor is outfitted with a 3.5-liter V6 with twin-turbochargers and direct fuel injection. It looks like the engine will put out around 450 horsepower while the torque figures are as yet unknown. The transmission is 10-speed automatic and it comes with a four-wheel transfer case working together with All-Terrain Mode system.
