2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover
Posted on by
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover has recently made a global debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and it is coming as a replacement for Cadillac SRX flagship luxury crossover. It will be rebadged and heavily upgraded on the outside and inside, as well as under the hood.
It also offers a new premium craftsmanship as the model, although taller and wider, has actually shed as many as 300 pounds of curb weight as compared to the SRX. It is also outfitted with an upscale interior including plenty of driving assist features and upgraded connectivity, in addition to new seats and more space inside.
As for the powerplant, it comes with two engine options, one of which is GM’s own 3.6-liter V6, with a hybrid unit in the works. All the models come in a front or all-wheel setup that includes a twin clutch design which can disconnect the rear wheels for better mileage. And if you wonder about the model’s name, the XT5 stands for ‘Crossover Touring 5’.
Exterior and Interior
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover takes plenty of design cues from the CT6, especially in the front with its tall grille and banked headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Some may object a return to a more conservative, read ‘ generic’, crossover look influenced by all those Lexus models out there, but if you look more carefully you will notice plenty of razor blade sharp slashes and creases making for a rather dynamic styling overall. The chassis has got 2-inch wider across the wheel base, while the model also grown taller too. Moreover, to improve the suspension, Macpherson struts have been added to the front and Multi Link system to the back. The profile offers new character lines and stylish blacked-out B- and C-pillars, while prominent fenders hug standard 18- or optional 20-inch wheels. The taillights are influenced by CTS’s taillights, and a sporty rear spoiler comes with a light bar.
Inside, the XT5 is a typical Cadillac with plenty of wood and metallic accents on the dashboard and center stack. Thanks to the wider wheel base the rear seats, which can recline as well as slide forward and back, have just got additional 3.2-inch leg room. The creature comforts include the standard Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto and upgraded infotainment with quicker response time. Optional features include a very handy Rear Camera Mirror system, which is also included in the CT6, feeding live video stream from a camera mounted in the rear directly to the rear-view mirror.
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover comes with two engine options, which are a 3.6-liter V6 delivering 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The second engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is only offered in the models sold in China. Both engines are coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rumors also point to a plug-in hybrid unit somewhere down the road.
2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover Release Date and Price
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover comes on market in the spring of 2016. The pricing is likely to start at roughly $39,000.
