2017 Cadillac ATS-V, coming up in both coupe and sedan version, promises to be a nibble and swift comfort car (smaller than CTS-V) with an additional responsiveness courtesy of the jazzed up twin-turbo V6 engine, eight-speed automatic/ optional six-speed manual, and performance-oriented design.
The model will go up against the now classic BMW M3 and M4 and ATS-V makes this abundantly clear with every feature and concept put into the making of it.
2017 Cadillac ATS-V – What makes it run
2017 Cadillac ATS-V will run on the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 engine packing 455 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The manufacturer swears by the turbo-charger having installed in it a load of tweaks, such as lighter and stronger pistons and connecting rods. There is also a low-volume cooling system to get more juice out of the engine.
2017 Cadillac ATS-V will feature the eight-speed automatic, which comes 28 percent lighter than the CTS-V’s six-speed. The shift sequences and traction control have been reprogrammed for a slightly softer feel. Cadillac has also ensured the six-speed manual that will feature GM’s “no-lift shift”, which means that you can shift gears without lifting your foot off the throttle.
2017 Cadillac ATS-V will reach zero-to-60-mph in less than four seconds with either transmission and a top speed of over 185 mph. As for estimated fuel consumption, it will be in the range of 21.8-27.8 mpg in extra-urban and 21.3-27.2 mpg (US) on highway.
How it looks
2017 Cadillac ATS-V’s design is all about efficiency. Almost every exterior element from fascias and fenders, to the hood, rear spoiler and rocker moldings is unique and contributes to the overall performance.
On balance, the model will be somewhat more rigid than the regular ATS providing better handling and more responsiveness on and off the track. Also, the V-Series models will have the same 109.3-inch (2,775 mm) wheelbase as other ATS coupe and sedan models, but will feature wider front and rear footprints that enhance grip and steering.
Also, there will be wider rubber all around with 18-inch Michelin tires designed specifically for the model. GM provides Magnetic Ride Control dampers joined with new bushings and ball joints while Brembo supplies the brakes.
2017 Cadillac ATS-V will sport a silver-painted crosshatch grille, plus an additional duct which will take up most of the lower front-end. Below the carbon-fiber hood the manufacturer cut an additional duct into the chrome grille surface. The angular chin spoiler, a ducktail decklid spoiler, and quad exhaust tips complete the model.
Inside ATS-V will include Recaro seats with 16-way adjustability, with Mulan leather trim and suede microfiber inserts. For additional comfort, Cadillac provides CUE with Bluetooth voice recognition and a Performance Data Recorder which allows the driver to record high-definition videos with data overlays.
There is also the Magnetic Ride Control which reads the road a thousand times per second sending data to the dampers which automatically adjust the dampening characteristics of the car.
Cadillac ATS-V comes out in the spring of 2016. Considering its competition, ATS-V sedan will likely be priced close to $60,000 with a coupe a few thousand more.
